Sargun Mehta has called for an end to online trolling as she prepares for the release of her Punjabi comedy ‘Carry On Jatta 4’. The actress said people should stop posting negative comments and targeting others on social media. Her co-star Gippy Grewal agreed with her view, though he acknowledged that trolls are unlikely to change simply because public figures ask them to stop.
Sargun Mehta speaks against online trolling
Speaking to IANS, Sargun was asked to name one habit she would not want people to “carry on with,” a reference to the title of her upcoming film. She responded, “People should stop making negative comments or trolling online. Like they should not carry it on at all.”
Gippy supported Sargun’s appeal but offered a practical view of online behavior. He said, “This is what I would want as well. But it’s not like people will stop just because we tell them to. Of course, this shouldn’t happen… everyone should just do their own work.”
The comments come ahead of the June 26 theatrical release of ‘Carry On Jatta 4’. Directed by Smeep Kang, the movie continues the Punjabi comedy franchise with a new mix of lies, mistaken identities and family confusion.
‘Carry On Jatta 4’ release and Sargun Mehta’s career
The ‘Carry On Jatta’ series began in 2012 with Gippy and Mahie Gill in leading roles. The second movie arrived in 2018, followed by the third installment in 2023. Sonam Bajwa appeared in both sequels. Kang has directed the franchise.
Sargun, 37, started acting while she was in college. She made her television debut in 2009 with ‘12/24 Karol Bagh’. Her television credits later included ‘Phulwa’, ‘Kya Huaa Tera Vaada’ and ‘Balika Vadhu’.
She entered Punjabi cinema with ‘Angrej’ in 2015. She later appeared in ‘Love Punjab’, ‘Lahoriye’, ‘Qismat’, ‘Qismat 2’, ‘Surkhi Bindi’ and ‘Saunkan Saunkanay’. She is also regarded as one of the highest-paid actresses in the Punjabi film industry.
Sargun made her Hindi film debut in ‘Cuttputlli’ in 2022. Directed by Ranjit M. Tewari, the film is a remake of Ram Kumar’s 2018 Tamil thriller ‘Ratsasan’. It starred Akshay Kumar, Rakul Preet Singh, Joshua LeClair, and Chandrachur Singh.
