Community Screenings of 'Satluj' Surge After OTT Removal

The removal of the Daljit Dosanjh-starrer film 'Satluj' from an OTT platform has paradoxically amplified public interest, leading to widespread circulation of downloaded copies on WhatsApp and organized community screenings across several Punjab villages. Residents are now actively engaging with the film, which chronicles the legacy of human rights activist Jaswant Singh Khalra.

Sandhwan Village Screening Scheduled for July 11

One such screening is planned in Sandhwan village, Nawanshahr, on July 11 at 7 pm. A circulating message urges villagers to attend, stating: “Aao apne itihas nu agli peedhi takk pahunchaiye. Wadh toh wadh ginti vich pahunch ke is film da darshan kro” (Let us pass our history on to the next generation. Attend in large numbers and watch this film). Farmer leader Davinder Singh emphasized the importance of educating youth about Punjab's history and Khalra's contributions: “It is very important to tell our children about the history of Punjab and what Jaswant Singh Khalra did for his people.”

Screenings Expand to Multiple Villages

Similar screenings have been arranged in Mundi Cholian village, while residents of Jabbowal village in Kapurthala recently organized a viewing. In Jalandhar district, a screening is scheduled for July 12, with a message encouraging families to bring children: “Vadh toh vadh bacheya nu laike pahuncho taaki ohna nu itihas naal jodeya ja ske” (Bring as many children as possible so that they can connect with their history).

Controversy Fuels Curiosity and Viewership

Several villagers noted that the controversy surrounding the film's OTT removal significantly boosted curiosity. A resident remarked: “Had the film not been removed from OTT, many people probably would not have bothered to watch it. But after its removal, everyone wants to see it, and we will definitely watch it.” The trend reflects a growing community-driven effort to preserve and transmit Punjab's historical narratives to younger generations.
