Sharib Hashmi Marks 9 Years of 'Pullu' Film on Menstruation

Actor Sharib Hashmi took to social media to celebrate the completion of nine years since the release of his 2017 drama 'Pullu'. In a post shared on Tuesday, Hashmi reiterated that 'Pullu' holds the distinction of being the first Hindi film to challenge the societal taboo surrounding menstruation.

Sharing unseen glimpses from the film on his official Instagram account, Hashmi wrote: "9 Years of #Phullu !!! The first Hindi film that tried to break the taboo attached with #menstruation #periods #sanitarypads in India and being a part of a '1st' is always very special 16thJune."

About the Film 'Pullu'

Directed by Abhishek Saxena, 'Pullu' features a cast including Jyotii Sethi, Nutan Surya, Trisha Kale, Kimti Anand, Namya Saxena, Paras Raj Gandhi, Seema Parihar, and Nilanjana Banerjee in key roles. Produced by Pushpa Chaudhary, Dr. Anmol Kapoor, Kshitij Chaudhary, and Raman Kapoor under the banner of Kapoor Film Inc Kc Production Pvt. Ltd, the film draws inspiration from the life of Arunachalam Muruganantham. Muruganantham is a social activist and entrepreneur from Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, known for inventing low-cost sanitary pads for women in rural areas.

Comparison with 'Pad Man'

Notably, Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar also starred in a film based on Muruganantham's life titled 'Pad Man', which was released on February 9, 2018. While 'Pullu' focused on the grassroots impact, 'Pad Man' brought the story to a wider audience.

Hashmi is set to appear in the highly anticipated comedy 'Welcome To The Jungle', directed by Ahmed Khan.
