Actor Suyyash Rai has shed light on the persistent issue of delayed payments in the television industry. During an exclusive interaction with IANS, Suyyash shared his personal experience of being defaulted on a payment of approximately seven lakh rupees.
Personal Experience with Payment Default
When asked about delayed payments, the 'Bigg Boss 9' contestant confirmed that it does happen. He revealed, "Around twelve years ago, someone owed me nearly seven lakh rupees and never returned it." Despite the loss, Suyyash maintained a philosophical outlook, stating, "But honestly, this industry has its own way of balancing things out. People who disrespect artists or exploit others never truly move ahead in the long run."
Shaleen Malhotra's Perspective
Shaleen Malhotra, who worked with Suyyash in the musical web series "Seven and a Half Dates", added his viewpoint. "Personally, I haven't faced major issues, though occasional delays can happen anywhere," he said. However, he acknowledged the systemic problem, noting, "Late payments have unfortunately become a pattern in television, but if someone has worked twelve or fourteen hours daily, they deserve to be paid properly and on time."
Survival in the Industry
Suyyash was further asked whether creative individuals still need camps, compromises, or lobbies to survive. He responded, "To some extent, yes. But I always chose the slower route where achievements feel earned." He emphasized building his own circle rather than relying on existing camps, adding, "No one succeeds entirely alone, though. Every collaborator brings something valuable to the table."
