Tamannaah Bhatia Sets the Record Straight on Her Body Transformation

Bollywood and South Indian cinema star Tamannaah Bhatia has found herself at the centre of intense public speculation regarding her recent physical transformation. While some online critics have accused the actor of using weight-loss drugs like Ozempic, others have celebrated her evolving appearance. In a candid conversation, Bhatia has now directly addressed these rumours, offering a powerful message about body image and self-acceptance.

From Slender Frame to Embracing Curves: A Natural Journey

Speaking with Harper’s Bazaar India, Tamannaah clarified that her current physique is not a new development but a natural part of her life's journey. Having started her film career at the young age of 15, she reminded everyone that the public has watched her grow up. "Till my late 20s I was a slender body type. That was always my body. This body in which I am right now is technically not new to me," she explained. The actor, who is nearing the milestone of 100 films, pointed out that her Southern audience has seen her in various shapes over the years, but her body has always been predominantly lean.

She emphasized a crucial point about female physiology, stating, "A woman’s body is always changing and every five years we see a different version of our own self." For Tamannaah, a significant shift occurred during the Covid-19 pandemic, which she says hit her body hard. This period coincided with her gaining more recognition in the Hindi film market, creating a perception that her body was newly transformed for a pan-India audience.

The Real Struggle: Covid, Food, and Camera Consciousness

The pandemic presented a major challenge for the actor in maintaining her weight. "I struggled with it. I love food, I love to eat my rice, roti, dal," she shared honestly. This led to moments of self-consciousness while facing the camera. She recalled a specific concern, revealing, "I began to feel that I don’t want to be conscious feeling a certain size... I’m feeling like ‘Oh is my tummy outside?’ Because at some point, my tummy was coming out."

Tamannaah also spoke about the very real effects of inflammation that women experience regularly. However, she delivered a firm and proud declaration about her figure. "My curves are not going anywhere because I am Sindhi. That hip and waist is not going anywhere because that is bone structure," she asserted.

In a powerful concluding statement, the newly appointed brand ambassador for KSDL rejected the pressure to fit a global mould. "I don’t think you will ever see me following global beauty standards because it’s aspirational to be Indian, people love our curves, and I think it’s time that we should embrace that," she said, championing a celebration of Indian body types and natural beauty.
