Two of television's most beloved presenters, Tess Daly and Vernon Kay, have announced their separation after 22 years of marriage. The couple, who married in September 2003 and share two daughters, emphasized that the split is amicable, made with mutual respect and understanding.
Announcement of Separation
The news was shared via a social media post, where Tess Daly, best known for hosting Strictly Come Dancing, released a joint statement. It read: "After much consideration, and with a deep sense of care and respect for one another, we have made the decision to separate amicably." The statement acknowledged the difficulty of the decision, adding: "This has not been an easy choice, but it comes from a place of mutual understanding and a shared desire for what is best for both of us. We remain great friends and, most importantly, fully committed to our roles as loving and supportive parents, which will always be our priority. There are no other parties involved in this decision."
The couple requested privacy, stating: "We kindly ask for privacy during this time as we navigate this transition together." They concluded by saying they would not make any further public comments on the matter.
Background of Tess Daly and Vernon Kay
Tess Daly and Vernon Kay first met in 2001 at a Christmas party while presenting rival programs. They hit it off instantly. In 2002, Kay proposed to Daly, and they married in 2003 at St Mary's Catholic Church in Horwich, Lancashire. The couple has two daughters: Phoebe, 21, and Amber, 16.
Their marriage faced challenges, including a scandal in 2010 when Vernon Kay admitted to sending explicit online messages to five women. During his BBC Radio 1 show, he apologized live on air, admitting he had "been an idiot and let my family down." His wife gave him a second chance, believing their marriage was worth fighting for.
In 2016, the scandal resurfaced with new allegations that Kay had contacted one of the women again. He was temporarily pulled from his show but pleaded innocent, stating the messages had no inappropriate intent. He later returned to his role.
