Timothy "Tim Dirty Bird" Means, a veteran UFC fighter, is facing serious accusations after an alleged assault on his 17-year-old daughter at their home in Tijeras, New Mexico. The incident occurred on Tuesday, according to police reports.
Details of the Alleged Assault
The argument reportedly began over household chores but quickly escalated into violence. Court documents obtained by the New York Post and the Albuquerque Journal state that Means punched, headbutted, and choked his daughter. He is also accused of throwing a potato that struck her in the head. When officers arrived, they observed visible injuries, including red marks on her neck and blood around her nose.
The complaint describes the attack in detail: Means headbutted his daughter in the nose, then held her against a kitchen counter and grabbed her neck in a "strangulating manner." Investigators noted visible handprints and redness consistent with strangulation, along with blood from the headbutt and marks from being struck in the face.
Legal Proceedings
Means was arrested on Wednesday on child abuse charges. A mugshot showed him looking tired and shaken. He was released on Friday, and his next court hearing is scheduled for May 26. The case is progressing, with no final decisions yet.
Career and Background
Means, known for his long UFC career, holds a professional record of 33 wins and 17 losses (15-14 in the UFC). However, his recent form has been poor, losing five of his last six fights, including a first-round defeat to Court McGee in October 2024. He previously faced a suspension in 2016 for a banned substance and was released from the UFC in 2013 before returning the following year.
Beyond fighting, Means has worked as a high school wrestling coach, raising concerns given his role with young athletes. This case marks a serious turn in his life, far beyond the octagon.
