VP Vance Jokes About Swapping Roles with New Mom Press Secretary

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt recently became a mother for the second time. She announced the birth of her daughter Viviana on May 1st. Taking to Instagram, she wrote, "On May 1st, Viviana aka 'Vivi' joined our family, and our hearts instantly exploded with love."

Details About the Newborn

Spilling details about her baby girl, Leavitt said, "She is perfect and healthy, and her big brother is joyfully adjusting to life with his new baby sister. We are enjoying every moment in our blissful newborn bubble."

VP Vance Steps In

Considering that Leavitt is taking care of her newborn and is currently on maternity leave, US Vice President JD Vance recently hosted a White House press conference. While taking questions, he said that the US and Iran have made a lot of progress in their talks and neither side wants to see a resumption of the military campaign. "We think that we've made a lot of progress. We think the Iranians want to make a deal," Vance told reporters.

A Joking Proposal

Moving further, he was asked about filling in for Leavitt when he joked that he had asked her to temporarily take over his job when his wife, Usha Vance, gives birth later this year. Political commentator Eric Daugherty shared a clip of the moment on X, joking that Vance agreed to step in as the press secretary on "ONE CONDITION."

Opening the briefing, Vance praised Leavitt and wished her well as she spends time with her family. "It's cool to be here. I want to give a shout out, of course, to the person I am replacing today, Karoline Leavitt, who hopefully is at home enjoying some time with her beautiful kids," Vance said.

He then joked that he had made a deal with Leavitt before agreeing to take over. "I told Karoline I would stand in for her today for the White House press briefing on the condition that when Usha has our baby in July, she would be vice president for a couple of weeks," said Vance, drawing laughter from the room.

New Babies in the White House

Leavitt, 28, the youngest White House Press Secretary, also has a son, Niko, born in July 2024. Meanwhile, JD Vance and Usha Vance are expecting their fourth child, another baby boy, due in late July, as per The US Sun. They already share three children: Ewan, Vivek, and Mirabel.

Moreover, Katie Miller, the wife of Stephen Miller, White House Deputy Chief of Staff for Policy, is also expecting her fourth child soon.
