A 29-year-old woman employed in the music industry was allegedly shot dead, and her body was discarded into a canal in Punjab's Ludhiana district, police reported on Thursday. Three suspects have been apprehended in connection with the crime.
Victim Identified as Yashinder Kaur
The victim, Yashinder Kaur, was reported missing on May 13 after she left her residence to purchase groceries and never returned. A murder case was registered on May 15 following investigations that revealed she was killed on the same day she disappeared.
Main Accused Based in Canada
Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Ludhiana, Jaskiranjit Singh Teja, informed ANI that the primary suspect, Sukhwinder Singh, is a resident of Canada and was already married. Police allege that Sukhwinder Singh was in a relationship with Yashinder Kaur and had been pressuring her to marry him. On the day of the incident, he allegedly called her to meet. When she declined his marriage proposal, he purportedly shot her dead.
Disposal of Body and Arrests
According to police, the accused then disposed of her body in a canal. During the investigation, three individuals—Karamjit Singh, Ravinder Singh, and Pritam Singh—were arrested for their alleged involvement in the crime. Authorities have recovered the murder weapon, the vehicle used in the crime (which was also found in the canal), and the victim's body.
Legal Action Taken
Police have invoked Section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code in the case. Further investigation is underway to uncover additional details and ensure justice for the victim.
