Yami Gautam Reveals Intimate Wedding Details: No Proposal, Family Rituals & Instinct
Yami Gautam Opens Up About Her Intimate Wedding to Aditya Dhar

Bollywood actress Yami Gautam has opened up about her deeply personal and intimate wedding to filmmaker Aditya Dhar, offering a rare glimpse into their private life away from the glitz of cinema. This revelation comes as Aditya Dhar enjoys the success of his recent film Dhurandhar, starring Ranveer Singh, Akshaye Khanna, Sanjay Dutt, Arjun Rampal, and R Madhavan.

An Organic Bond Without a 'Filmy' Proposal

In a candid conversation, Yami Gautam reflected on how her relationship with Aditya blossomed naturally. She emphasized that their journey lacked the dramatic, cinematic moments often associated with Bollywood. "There was no 'I am going to propose to you' kind of moment or anything filmy," she revealed. Their connection grew quietly during the promotional phase of the blockbuster film Uri: The Surgical Strike, which Aditya directed.

Yami stated that the simplicity of their understanding was what made it special. "We just knew that we really wanted to get married. Our families were extremely aligned and very happy for us," she shared. The actress added that even without the constraints of the pandemic, she would have chosen the same intimate wedding format, surrounded by just a few family members, blessings, and nature.

A Ritual-Centric Wedding in the Hills

Describing their wedding in Himachal Pradesh, Yami highlighted the profound significance of tradition for the couple. "We wanted to make it more about rituals than anything else. We love our traditions, our Hindu culture. Each and everything that is said at that time has a meaning," she explained.

The scenic hill setting, with majestic deodar trees in the background, felt like a divine blessing. "For me, to have the mighty deodars in the background, nature blessing us out there in the open... both of us had our hearts in those hills," Yami expressed emotionally.

Her attire held deep sentimental value. She wore her mother's saree, aiming to look just as her mother did on her own wedding day. Adding to the tradition, she adorned a traditional reeda dupatta and a pahadi nath (nose ring) gifted by her maternal grandmother (nani), who had preserved them since Yami's birth. "That's exactly how I wanted to get married. There is nothing I would change about that moment," she affirmed.

Trusting Instinct and the Importance of Family

Yami Gautam spoke strongly about trusting one's intuition in relationships. "I think we women are very intuitive by nature. Your first instinct about anyone, if you go back to it, will always be correct," she advised. She described Aditya as a "rarity in today's time," which was her initial feeling about him.

She illustrated his thoughtful nature with a small gesture during her pregnancy while promoting Article 370. "He just wanted to make sure that I was comfortable. He got me a pillow," she said, laughing about how this act later led the internet to call him a 'green forest'. Another anecdote from the Uri sets, shared by her hairstylist, highlighted his innate humility when he offered his director's chair to her while she was sitting on the floor.

For Yami, the alignment and approval of their families were paramount. "It was very important that my parents felt the same amount of respect and security with Aditya," she noted, describing marriage as a union of families, not just two individuals. She appreciated how Aditya fit in effortlessly by being his authentic self, even taking charge in the kitchen.

A Journey Where Everything Fell Into Place

Summing up their relationship, Yami stated there was no single dramatic turning point. "There was no 'that moment' moment. Everything just fell into place. Everyone was loving and respectful towards one another," she recalled with gratitude.

She concluded with a sense of calm certainty about their partnership, "Maybe we were fortunate. Or maybe this is life rewarding us. Or it's the kind of person he is and the kind of person I am."

Yami Gautam and Aditya Dhar tied the knot in an intimate ceremony on June 4, 2021, in Himachal Pradesh. The couple welcomed their son, Vedavid, in the year 2024, marking a new chapter in their lives together.
