Former Home Improvement star Zachery Ty Bryan finds himself in legal trouble once again after being arrested over the weekend in Eugene, Oregon. The actor and his girlfriend were taken into custody on Saturday according to reports from TMZ.
Probation Violation Leads to Arrest
Bryan was specifically arrested for violating the terms of his probation connected to an earlier domestic violence conviction from 2023. The actor is currently serving a three-year probation sentence that began in 2023 and is scheduled to conclude in October 2026.
Court documents reveal that Bryan has been denied bail in this matter and is expected to remain behind bars until Wednesday, December 3. This development marks another significant setback in the actor's ongoing legal battles.
Girlfriend Faces Multiple Serious Charges
Bryan's girlfriend, Johnnie Faye Cartwright, was also arrested on the same day and booked into the same jail facility. She faces multiple charges including:
- DUII (Driving Under the Influence of Intoxicants)
- Three counts of reckless endangering
- Attempted first-degree assault
Cartwright is scheduled to be arraigned on Monday according to the TMZ report. The couple shares multiple children together, and Bryan was previously married to Carly Matros from 2007 to 2020.
History of Domestic Violence Controversies
This isn't the first time Bryan has faced legal issues involving Johnnie Cartwright. In 2020, the actor faced serious accusations after an alleged violent incident that began over missing phone chargers.
According to police reports, Cartwright claimed she woke up to Bryan pulling her hair and hitting her during an argument. She further alleged that the abuse had started weeks earlier, accusing him of choking her to the point where she struggled to breathe.
Bryan was initially charged with felony strangulation, menacing, assault and harassment but was ultimately convicted only of menacing and assault charges. In a June 2023 interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Bryan insisted the situation had been "blown out of proportion" and claimed it "didn't even really get that physical."
Earlier this year, Bryan was taken into custody again after allegedly punching a woman multiple times and threatening to kill her, though it remains unclear if the woman was Cartwright. More recently, an ex of the actor was granted a five-year restraining order against him after accusing him of "punching her in the head" in July.
The repeated legal troubles continue to overshadow Bryan's acting career, which gained him fame through his role as Brad Taylor on the popular 1990s sitcom Home Improvement.
