What could be more captivating than listening to the legendary Braz Gonsalves perform under a mango tree with twinkling stars above? The 15th edition of the International Jazz Day Celebration at the breathtaking 350-year-old Silva Heritage Lawns in Benaulim transformed into an unforgettable, magical evening of world-class jazz, heritage, soul, and pure musical energy.
A Night of Musical Magic
It was an evening of pure musical enchantment as 92-year-old jazz maestro Braz Gonsalves took the stage. His mastery of the alto and soprano saxophone held the audience spellbound. Beside him stood his wife, Yvonne Gonsalves — daughter of the great Chic Chocolate — lending her timeless vocals to the performance, weaving deep emotion and nostalgic brilliance into every note.
Next Generation Joins the Legends
Joining the legends were Goa's outstanding next-generation jazz musicians: Risa Rodrigues on bass, Ian Noronha on keys, and Jeshurun D'Cruz on drums. Together, they created a seamless blend of experience and youthful energy.
Braz Gonsalves himself described the evening as deeply memorable — reconnecting with old friends while also meeting an entirely new generation discovering his music for the very first time.
Curator's Perspective
"It was a beautiful coming together of legends and young talent — celebrating jazz, legacy, mentorship, and keeping the spirit of live music alive for future generations," said Vinesh Iyer, curator and producer. An architect by profession and music curator and producer, Iyer added, "One of the most striking moments of the evening was seeing that more than 50% of the audience had heard about Braz Gonsalves for years, but had never experienced him perform live before."
Audience and Atmosphere
The concert brought together over 150 music lovers from across Goa, along with travelers from around the world, for a rare and intimate musical experience unlike any before. The emotional energy in the audience was unforgettable, leaving a lasting impression on all who attended.
