Gurnam Bhullar DU Show Stopped Midway Amid Crowd Rush

Punjabi Superstar Gurnam Bhullar's DU Performance Cut Short Amid Crowd Surge

The highly anticipated concert by celebrated Punjabi artist Gurnam Bhullar at Sri Guru Teg Bahadur Khalsa College, Delhi University, was abruptly terminated on Thursday evening after students jumped over security barricades, creating a potentially hazardous situation due to an unexpectedly massive crowd.

Event Descends into Chaos as Barricades Are Breached

The evening began with energetic bhangra circles and enthusiastic students hoisting each other for better views. However, the atmosphere shifted dramatically as the audience size swelled beyond expectations. Witnesses reported that entry points were circumvented, allowing access from less secured areas, which contributed to the overwhelming numbers near the stage.

Gurnam Bhullar, famous for hits like "Diamond," made repeated appeals to the audience for discipline. "Please line na cross karo, show chalda hai tab hi. Discipline se khade raho, main bhi idhar khada raha. Jidhar kharabi hoyi toh menu jana padega. Apni apni jagah khade raho phir hum bhangra paon denge," he urged, translating to a plea for order to continue the performance.

Organizers Prioritize Safety, Halt Show Prematurely

As the crowd continued to breach barriers in an attempt to get closer to the stage, organizers signaled to Bhullar to stop the performance. College security personnel and police on site remained alert and firm, but the situation escalated beyond manageable levels.

In his final address, Bhullar expressed regret, stating, "Barrier break na karo please. Hume program rokna padega. Dil ni kar raha jaan nu par phir milenge kisi show mein. Mera mann hai ki main aur gaavan lekin koi bhasad ho… Thank you ji," indicating he didn't want to leave but had to due to safety concerns.

Official Statement Cites Crowd Management as Primary Reason

Dr. Inderpreet Kaur, Advisor to the Students Union at SGTB Khalsa College, explained the decision. "The situation was controlled, and the singer performed as per the allotted time. We requested him to conclude early to manage the crowd effectively. Despite the unexpected turnout, security handled the situation commendably. The artist's immense popularity as a Punjabi actor and singer contributed to the overwhelming response," she stated.

Dr. Kaur added that the campus cleared within an hour after Bhullar's departure, with students from various colleges attending the event.

Students Express Disappointment Over Abrupt Ending

Many attendees who had waited for hours were left disheartened by the premature conclusion. Gurmehar Singh, a second-year Chemistry (Hons) student, shared his experience of struggling to access the VIP area despite being on the guest list, suggesting security protocols might have been tightened due to the surge.

Another second-year Economics student revealed that some peers had been at the venue since 12:30 PM, only to see the show end early. The incident highlights the challenges of managing large-scale events on university campuses, especially with high-profile artists drawing massive crowds.
