The third release from Season 4 takes listeners into the narrow lanes of Varanasi with Kachaudi Gali, a haunting folk-inspired track rooted in the forgotten human cost of the First Anglo-Burmese War. Set against the backdrop of the city's famed alleyways, the song follows a woman watching her husband being taken away by the British Army — uprooted from Mirzapur and sent to Rangoon for a conflict that was never his own.
A Story of Quiet Devastation
Through her voice emerges a portrait of quiet devastation: the emptiness left behind in homes, the sorrow carried by women, and the countless untold stories that never found space in official history. Blending intimacy with historical memory, Kachaudi Gali draws from Bhojpuri folk traditions to capture emotions that have survived across generations in oral storytelling and regional music.
Artistic Collaboration
The track brings together three distinct artistic voices. Rekha Bhardwaj lends the song emotional depth with her evocative vocals, while Utpal Udit grounds the composition in folk textures and sonic restraint. Khwaab adds an undercurrent of tension and vulnerability, allowing the narrative to unfold with quiet intensity.
Behind the Track
Speaking about the track, Shantanu Gangane, IMX Lead at Coca-Cola India and Southwest Asia, said the idea behind the platform has always been to revive local stories and cultural memory through music. He described Kachaudi Gali as an example of how regional narratives can feel both rooted and contemporary when interpreted through today's artists.
Rekha Bhardwaj shared that the song focuses less on war itself and more on the emotional aftermath it leaves behind. She added that despite the scale of the production, the song retains a deeply personal and intimate quality. Utpal Udit noted that the production relied heavily on subtle details — pauses, restraint, and rawness — to preserve the honesty of Bhojpuri folk music and its cultural essence. Khwaab added that the track demonstrates how hyperlocal stories, dialects, and forgotten histories can resonate widely when given the right creative platform.
Season 4's Regional Focus
With Kachaudi Gali, Season 4 continues its exploration of regional narratives preserved through folk memory and oral tradition. Following earlier releases Ae Ajnabee and Bulleya Ve, the season remains focused on reimagining local stories through contemporary collaborations and soundscapes for modern audiences.
