60 Phones Seized at Vijayawada Temple for Restricted Use

In a routine inspection conducted by temple authorities at Sri Durga Malleswara Swamy Varla Devasthanam on Indrakeeladri in Vijayawada on Saturday, around 60 mobile phones were seized from devotees found using phones and taking selfies in restricted areas near the temple premises.

Inspection and Enforcement

The temple executive officer, VK Seena Naik, personally directed security personnel to strictly prevent devotees from carrying and using mobile phones inside the prohibited areas of the temple premises. Officials confirmed that devotees who violated the rules were counselled on the spot and their devices were temporarily confiscated.

Spiritual Atmosphere at Stake

Temple public relations officer Dr K Gangadhar emphasized that the shrine is a place of devotion, not a tourist spot. He stated that mobile phone usage and selfies inside the temple premises are negatively impacting the spiritual atmosphere and leading to undesirable consequences. The authorities are committed to maintaining the sanctity of the temple.

The EO also inspected prasadam counters, annaprasadam kitchens, drinking water, and sanitation facilities. Shopkeepers were warned against overpricing devotees. Temple authorities have warned of strict action against any violations or negligence in duties.

This move is part of ongoing efforts to preserve the devotional environment and ensure that all visitors adhere to the rules. The temple administration continues to monitor the situation closely.
