After a considerable hiatus, the acclaimed actor Aamir Khan and director Ashutosh Gowariker are reportedly reuniting for an ambitious period film based on the life of legendary cricketer Lala Amarnath. This collaboration marks their first since the classic Lagaan.

As quoted by Pinkvilla, “Aamir Khan plays Lala Amarnath in the film, which is essentially a friendship story set against the backdrop of cricket and Partition. Farhan Akhtar is in talks for the role of his closest friend. The emotional dynamics between the two characters form the heart of the narrative.”
Rajkumar Hirani on Board
The film is reportedly being produced by Aamir Khan in association with Excel Entertainment and filmmaker Rajkumar Hirani. The same report stated, “The film is being produced by Aamir Khan along with Excel Entertainment and Rajkumar Hirani, and is expected to go on floors around October 2026 with a start-to-finish schedule.”

The screenplay has reportedly gone through several rounds of refinement. Writer Abhijat Joshi is believed to have contributed to the script along with Rajkumar Hirani.
