Andhra Leaders Mourn Legendary Singer S Janaki

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and former Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy on Tuesday condoled the demise of legendary playback singer S Janaki, hailing her as an unparalleled voice in Indian music. Janaki, who sang over 48,000 songs in multiple languages, passed away at the age of 93 in Chennai.

Naidu's Tribute: A Voice That Transcended Generations

Naidu described Janaki as a singer whose voice transcended generations. In a social media post, he said, "S Janaki's melodious voice has left an indelible mark on Indian cinema. Her songs will continue to resonate with music lovers forever." He recalled her contributions to Telugu cinema, where she sang numerous classics.

Jagan Remembers Her Melodious Contributions

Jagan Mohan Reddy also expressed deep sorrow, stating that Janaki's songs were a treasure for music lovers. "Her melodious voice and versatile singing brought life to countless films. She will be remembered as one of the greatest playback singers India has ever produced," he said in a statement.

Janaki's Legacy: Over 48,000 Songs in 17 Languages

S Janaki, born on April 23, 1931, in Pallapatla village in Andhra Pradesh, began her career in the 1950s. She recorded songs in 17 languages, including Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam, Hindi, and Bengali. She received numerous accolades, including the Padma Shri in 2013 and three National Film Awards for Best Female Playback Singer.

Industry Mourns the Loss of a Legend

The film fraternity across South India also paid tributes. Actor Chiranjeevi called her passing "an irreplaceable loss" while singer K S Chithra said Janaki was her inspiration. The Andhra Pradesh government announced that her funeral would be held with full state honors.
