Artists from across India showcased their creativity at a special art and culture event titled ‘Canvas of The Hills’, held on Monday at the iconic Ridge in Shimla. The event brought together renowned painters who captured the natural beauty, historical landmarks, and rich cultural heritage of the hill station on their canvases.
Event as Part of International Summer Festival
The painting session was organized as a prelude to the upcoming International Summer Festival Shimla, scheduled to be held from June 8 to 12. Deputy Commissioner (DC) Shimla, Anupam Kashyap, announced that the artworks created during the event will be displayed in an exhibition during the festival, allowing the public to appreciate the artistic interpretations of Shimla.
Artists Explored Shimla Before Painting
Kashyap explained that the artists first explored the town, observing its heritage buildings, popular landmarks, and scenic vistas before beginning their painting and sketching session. The DC also revealed that the artists will later visit the Spiti Valley in Lahaul and Spiti district to paint the breathtaking Himalayan landscapes.
The primary objective of the art event, according to Kashyap, is to provide a common platform for artists from across the country, promote cultural exchange through art, and showcase Shimla’s unique beauty at the national level through creative expression.

Following the painting session, DC Kashyap felicitated the participants with certificates of appreciation. The artists also gifted some of their creative works to the Deputy Commissioner. Participating artists included Shirish Deshpande, Manoj Soman, Sandeep Khedkar, Nitin Mahamuni, Mahendra Kondekar, Suhasini M Kondekar, Radha Soman, Vinita Purohit Lohra, Gulzar Hussain, Sai Manikaran Veduruparthi, Vamsi Kiran Paila, Debopriya Bezbaruah, Nakshdeep Singh, and Rajendra Mehta.
