Babil Khan to Make Malayalam Debut in Gandhi Bazar Sunday Market
Babil Khan's Malayalam Debut in Gandhi Bazar Sunday Market

Babil Khan, the son of the late Bollywood legend Irrfan Khan, is all set to make his Malayalam cinema debut with the upcoming film Gandhi Bazar Sunday Market, directed by Babu Janardhanan. The director recently shared insights on how Babil came on board for the project.

How Babil Khan Was Cast

Babu Janardhanan revealed that he first noticed Babil in the Netflix series The Railway Men. “I was thoroughly impressed by his performance. At that time, I had no idea he was Irrfan Khan’s son. His face stayed in my mind,” the director recalled. While the team had initially considered other actors for the role, someone suggested Babil’s name during the casting process. “I remembered The Railway Men again. When I realised he was Irrfan’s son, I felt a sense of intimacy as an ardent fan of the actor. We approached him, and he liked the story,” Babu added.

Babil’s Excitement for Malayalam Cinema

According to Babu, Babil is very excited to work in Malayalam cinema. “He wanted to discuss it with his mother because apparently they watch a lot of Malayalam films together — something Irrfan Khan had started. They said Irrfan was keen to act in Malayalam,” the director shared.

The young actor will join the team during the first schedule of the shoot, which is set to begin on May 19.

The Film and Its Cast

Apart from Babil Khan, Gandhi Bazar Sunday Market features Aparna Balamurali, Nikhil Nair, and Deepak Parambol in key roles. Babu Janardhanan described the film as “based on the lives of migrant labourers.” He added, “When we deal with subjects like this, we often see the harsher parts of their lives. But this film is planned as an entertainer.”
