Kolkata: BJP's Tollygunje MLA Papiya Adhikary on Tuesday addressed the ongoing leadership confusion within the Eastern India Motion Picture Association (EIMPA), stating that the organization is currently without a president. She emphasized that stakeholders must wait a week for free and fair elections to determine the new head.
Adhikary Refuses to Acknowledge Ratan Saha
Adhikary refused to acknowledge Ratan Saha, who was recently felicitated as the new president in the presence of various EIMPA members and veteran director Goutam Ghose. She pointed out that there is no concept of an interim president in EIMPA, questioning the validity of Saha's appointment.
Dismisses Piyaa Ssengupta's Claim
Adhikary also dismissed the claim made by Piyaa Ssengupta that she still legally holds the EIMPA president's position. She noted that Ssengupta had secured only three votes in a recent no-confidence motion, thereby losing her mandate. Adhikary asserted that the organization must move forward democratically.
"I have sent across a message that elections will be held in a democratic manner," Adhikary added, reiterating her commitment to a transparent process. The MLA's statements come amid growing tensions within Tollywood's apex body, with multiple factions vying for control.
The EIMPA has been a cornerstone of the Bengali film industry, overseeing various aspects of film production and distribution. The leadership vacuum has raised concerns among industry stakeholders about the smooth functioning of the association.
Adhikary's intervention is seen as an attempt to bring clarity and stability to the organization. She urged all members to participate in the upcoming elections to ensure a credible outcome. The development is being closely watched by the film fraternity, as the new leadership will play a crucial role in shaping the future of Tollywood.
