Blast: Arjun, Abhirami, Preity Mukhundhan in Action Family Thriller

Debutant director Subash K Raj is set to make his mark with the upcoming film Blast, an 'action family thriller' starring veteran actor Arjun, alongside Abhirami and Preity Mukhundhan in pivotal roles. The film, produced by Kalpathi S Aghoram, Kalpathi S Ganesh, and Kalpathi S Suresh under the banner of AGS Entertainment, is scheduled for a theatrical release on May 28.

What is an 'Action Family'?

Subash K Raj explains the unique concept behind the film. 'I wanted to make a woman-centric action film. I wrote the father character as a karate master who has trained his daughter since childhood. Since both the father and daughter are powerful, naturally a villain would target the mother. But then, I thought — what happens if the mother is also powerful? That idea of an 'action family' felt exciting to me.' This core premise sets the stage for a thrilling narrative where every family member is a force to be reckoned with.

Casting the Perfect Ensemble

When it came to casting the father, Subash says Arjun was an obvious choice. 'The character needed someone who could convincingly be a father, hero, karate master, and perform action effortlessly. Arjun sir was perfect.' For the mother, the director sought an actress who could exude power. 'We wanted an actress who would look convincing while beating someone up. Abhirami ma'am radiates a sense of power,' he says. Preity Mukhundhan completes the family as the daughter, trained in martial arts from childhood.

From Assistant Director to Director

Subash K Raj previously worked as an assistant director to Pradeep Ranganathan on the hit film Love Today. He recalls that AGS Entertainment immediately supported the script after the narration. 'The banner offers creative freedom and ensures efficient releases,' he adds. The director is confident that Blast will appeal to family audiences as well. 'Family audiences generally can't sit through out-and-out action. But this film will be relatable for the entire family,' he insists.

Themes of Parenting

Beyond the action, Blast will also touch upon parenting. 'We have spoken about how a dad should be raising a daughter in today's society,' Subash signs off. The film promises to blend high-octane action with emotional family dynamics, making it a unique offering for audiences.
