Buddha Through Contemporary Art: Kochi Exhibition Draws Visitors

Kochi: From meditative images embossed on brass-plated sheets to a striking sand art portraying Buddha holding a lotus flower, an ongoing exhibition at G Memorial in Kochi is drawing visitors into a visual exploration of shades of Buddha through contemporary art.

The exhibition, titled Awakening, organized by Indus Art Centre, Ernakulam, as part of Buddha Purnima celebrations, features paintings and sculptures by 20 prominent artists from across the country.

Leader of opposition V D Satheesan, who inaugurated the exhibition on Thursday, said Buddha's teachings against war and conflict have acquired greater significance in the present world. "When apathy among people is spreading dangerously across the world, Buddha's message against war, conflict and his stand for peace gain greater significance today," he said.
