The upcoming romantic drama 'Cocktail 2', starring Shahid Kapoor, Kriti Sanon, and Rashmika Mandanna, has successfully obtained certification from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) ahead of its theatrical release. Notably, the board approved the film without demanding any visual edits, allowing all romantic and intimate sequences to remain intact. However, the film received an A certificate, making it suitable exclusively for adult audiences.
Audio Edits Requested by the Certification Board
Although the visuals remained untouched, according to Mid-Day, the CBFC directed the makers to implement a handful of audio-related changes before certification. Among the modifications, the board asked for a profanity appearing in the subtitles to be removed. In addition, every mention of the word 'Agni' in the film's dialogue track has reportedly been replaced with 'Diya' as per the board's instructions.
Another notable alteration involved the phrase 'Jew on the run.' The certification order mandated that the reference be censored, though the official document did not clarify the context in which the expression appeared within the narrative.
Following the completion of these revisions, 'Cocktail 2' received its censor certificate on June 16. According to the official certification records, the film runs for 149 minutes and 19 seconds, translating to approximately 2 hours, 29 minutes, and 19 seconds. The certification also marks a significant milestone for Kriti Sanon, as this is reportedly the first A-rated film of her career spanning over a decade in the Hindi film industry.
A New Chapter After the Success of 'Cocktail'
The film arrives as a follow-up to the 2012 hit 'Cocktail', which featured Deepika Padukone, Diana Penty, and Saif Ali Khan. The original movie earned acclaim for its portrayal of friendship, romance, and emotional conflicts among three young individuals navigating life in London.
While the first film explored a classic love triangle, the sequel is expected to take a contemporary route by examining modern relationships and evolving social dynamics among young adults.
What to Expect from 'Cocktail 2'?
Headlined by Shahid Kapoor, Kriti Sanon, and Rashmika Mandanna, 'Cocktail 2' is expected to revolve around complicated emotional equations and present-day relationship challenges. Reports suggest that Kriti portrays a bold and carefree character who becomes central to the film's interpersonal conflicts, while Shahid leads the romantic narrative. The project reunites director Homi Adajania with the franchise after his work on the original 'Cocktail'. Backed by Maddock Films, the sequel reportedly delves into themes such as situationships and Gen-Z romance, blending them with friendship, heartbreak, music, and drama.
Shot across scenic international locations, 'Cocktail 2' aims to offer a mix of romance, glamour, emotional turmoil, and chartbuster music. The much-awaited entertainer is scheduled to arrive in cinemas on June 19.
