The excitement surrounding 'Drishyam 3' has reached a fever pitch as the film gears up for its worldwide theatrical release. Directed by Jeethu Joseph and starring the legendary Mohanlal, this crime thriller marks the third installment in one of Malayalam cinema's most successful franchises. The narrative continues the story of Georgekutty and his family, with expectations soaring among fans and movie enthusiasts alike.
Opening Day Advance Sales Cross Rs 14 Crore
Industry tracker Jerin Georgekutty shared a major update on X on May 17, revealing that 'Drishyam 3' has already crossed Rs 14 crore in worldwide advance bookings for its opening day. The post detailed, "#Drishyam3 Opening Day world wide advances touched 14 CRORES Mark : Kerala leading at Domestic market with 4.50 Crores+ ( inc fans shows) & GCC with $430K+ ( 4.12 Cr INR ) leading the Overseas markets ; Total Weekend world wide advance inching closer to 18.50 CRORES Mark : Just 4 More full days left #Mohanlal #Drishyam #JeethuJoseph."
Kerala and GCC Dominate Pre-sales
Kerala has emerged as the top-performing domestic market, with advance bookings in the state crossing Rs 4.50 crore, including fan shows. On the international front, the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) region has proven to be the strongest overseas territory, contributing over USD 430,000 (approximately Rs 4.12 crore). The worldwide weekend advance bookings are now approaching Rs 18.50 crore, with several days still remaining before the release.
Familiar Faces Return in 'Drishyam 3'
The new installment brings back key cast members from the earlier films. Alongside Mohanlal, Meena, Ansiba Hassan, and Esther Anil reprise their established roles. The supporting cast also includes Siddique, Asha Sharath, and Murali Gopy, ensuring continuity for fans of the franchise.
Hindi Version to Feature Major Changes
The makers have confirmed that the Hindi adaptation starring Ajay Devgn will not be a direct remake of the Malayalam original. While both versions pick up the story from where 'Drishyam 2' ended, the Hindi film will adopt a different screenplay and narrative approach. Speaking to ANI, Abhishek Pathak explained, "You will understand the difference only when you watch the Hindi trailer. The story in Drishyam 2 ended at a certain point, and Drishyam 3 begins from there. The Malayalam version also starts from that point. The Malayalam version is more of a family drama. As Jeethu Joseph told us during the launch, the story is very good for the Malayalam audience, and they will like it. We liked it a lot too, which is why we invested in this project."
Mohanlal's original 'Drishyam 3' is set to open in cinemas worldwide on May 21.
