Director Jeethu Joseph has revealed that the much-anticipated 'Drishyam 3' will be an emotional thriller, not a film that relies solely on twists and mind games. In a recent interview, Joseph opened up about the upcoming Mohanlal-starrer, sharing insights into the story's development and its emotional core.
The Idea for Drishyam 3
Joseph disclosed that the concept for the third installment emerged after the release of 'Drishyam 2'. He recalled that Mohanlal, affectionately called Lalettan by fans, casually inquired about a potential third film. This conversation sparked Joseph's imagination, leading him to develop the story further. The filmmaker emphasized that he did not want to create another film merely for commercial gain, making it clear to producer Antony Perumbavoor that the project was not about money.
Emotional Core Over Mind Games
Addressing the tone of 'Drishyam 3', Joseph stated that the film will not depend heavily on intricate mind games. Instead, it will move through emotion, drama, and the pressure surrounding Georgekutty and his family. He described the franchise as a family drama with suspense woven into the narrative, a formula that will continue in the third film. Joseph added that 'Drishyam 3' follows the approach of the first movie more closely than many viewers might expect, staying rooted in family tension, fear, and the moral weight of Georgekutty's choices.
Returning Cast and Legacy
Mohanlal will reprise his role as Georgekutty, one of his most iconic characters. The film also features Meena, Ansiba Hassan, and Esther Anil as members of Georgekutty's family. The 'Drishyam' series began in 2013 and became a landmark in Malayalam cinema, with 'Drishyam 2' released in 2021 continuing the family's struggle to move past an old case. 'Drishyam 3' now carries strong expectations as Joseph prepares to close another chapter in Georgekutty's life.
