IKKA Trailer: Sunny Deol's First Streaming Film, Akshaye Khanna's Absence

Sunny Deol's first streaming release, the courtroom drama IKKA, unveiled its trailer in Mumbai on Monday, June 29, 2026. The film, directed by Siddharth P Malhotra, features Deol as lawyer Arjun Mehra, who is forced to defend Akshaye Khanna's character Shauryamann Gaur in a high-profile attempted murder case. Tillotama Shome plays prosecutor Madhura Banerjee, while Dia Mirza portrays Arjun's wife Avantika, whose home life is disrupted by the case.

Sunny Deol's Vulnerable Turn

Deol, known for his iconic line "Tareekh pe tareekh…" from Damini, now plays a lawyer who cries, hesitates, and questions himself. Malhotra described the character as a man whose moral certainty crumbles, a departure from Deol's usual invincible persona. "IKKA is not just a courtroom drama. It is a story about family, relationships, and the difficult choices life forces you to make," Deol said at the event.

Akshaye Khanna's Absence Creates Buzz

Khanna was absent from the trailer launch, with Netflix playing an audio message in which he joked that appearing might cause a "zalzalaa" (earthquake). His absence, however, dominated conversations. Deol recalled their reunion after many years, slipping into Punjabi and expressing delight that Khanna "is flying high." Shome noted she initially failed to recognize Khanna on set because he was—uncharacteristically—smiling.

Tillotama Shome and Dia Mirza Shine

Shome, visibly emotional on stage, said her husband still can't believe she is in a film with Sunny Deol. She added that Malhotra "treated me like a star." Mirza, who slaps Khanna's character in the film, admitted she is terrified of audience reactions. "I'm very scared. They've even put it in the trailer!" she laughed. Malhotra revealed it was the first scene she shot with Khanna. When complimented as "beauty with brains," Mirza pushed back: "Beauty with brains is a very offensive term. Why do people feel that if a girl is beautiful, she can't also be intelligent?"

Release and Expectations

The film releases on Netflix on July 10, 2026. The trailer launch, held at a dimly lit Marriott hall with smoke machines and crimson and emerald lights, featured actors more interested in applauding one another than themselves. The event left the audience with a trailer, a few jokes, an absent Akshaye Khanna, and a sense that the film's emotional core lies in its characters' vulnerability.
