The Karnataka Cashew Development Corporation Ltd (KCDC) is set to organize an art competition for school students at Kadri Park in Mangaluru on May 17, coinciding with the two-day cashew mela. The contest will take place from 9:00 AM to 10:30 AM, with the prize distribution ceremony scheduled for 11:30 AM. The event is open to students from Class 1 to Class 10.
Categories and Themes
The competition is divided into three categories based on grade levels, each with a unique theme and specific materials allowed.
Classes 1 to 4
Students in this group will work on the theme “Environment’s Beauty.” They may use crayons or oil pastels. Cash prizes include Rs 2,000 for the first place, Rs 1,500 for second place, and Rs 1,000 for third place.
Classes 5 to 7
The theme for this category is “Birds That Feed on Cashew Apple.” Participants can use crayons or watercolour. The prize money is the same as the first category: Rs 2,000 for first, Rs 1,500 for second, and Rs 1,000 for third.
Classes 8 to 10
For older students, the theme is “Children Playing on a Cashew Tree.” They may use watercolour or acrylic colours. The top prize is Rs 3,000, with Rs 2,000 for second place and Rs 1,000 for third place.
Registration and Participation
Students can register on the spot. All participants will receive certificates of participation. The corporation advises students to arrive 30 minutes before the contest begins and to bring their own art supplies.
Additional Events
Alongside the art contest, other competitions such as elocution and rangoli for women have also been organized. These events are part of the Cashew Mela and workshop scheduled for May 17 and 18, marking the 48th anniversary of the KCDC.
Promoting Cashew Cultivation
Announcing the development on Friday, KCDC chairperson Mamatha Gatti stated that the competitions are aimed at promoting cashew cultivation. The mela and workshop intend to encourage cashew growers in the district and boost the cashew industry. She also announced that the corporation will distribute free cashew saplings to all visitors during the festival.
