Veteran actress Mandakini recently took a nostalgic trip down memory lane, recalling her experiences shooting for the 1986 fantasy-action film Singhasan. In a social media post, she reflected on the grand sets, outdoor locations, bright costumes, heavy jewelry, and the long hours that defined the film's production. She also fondly remembered working alongside legendary actors Jeetendra, Waheeda Rehman, Jaya Prada, and Amjad Khan, emphasizing the care and patience the team brought to every scene.
Mandakini Remembers the Making of Singhasan
According to IANS, Mandakini shared a heartfelt note about the scale of filmmaking in the 1980s. She wrote that the shooting days of Singhasan remain vivid in her memory. The actress described the unique vibe of shooting amid nature, donning colorful costumes and heavy jewelry, and working on the grand sets of that era. She noted that every scene was shot with such precision that sometimes the cast and crew had to wait hours for a single shot. However, once the camera started rolling, everything felt magical. She praised the dedication of the entire team, which gave its best to make each scene perfect.
Mandakini highlighted that films of that time relied on real sets and physical effort, without the aid of VFX or shortcuts. The grandeur visible on screen was the result of authentic sets and hard work. She also named the film's major actors, including Jeetendra, Jaya Prada, Waheeda Rehman, Amjad Khan, and many other legendary artists. The film was directed by Krishna ji. She noted that fantasy-action films had a distinct craze back then, and Singhasan was one of those grand productions.
Mandakini on Jeetendra and the Telugu Version
The actress fondly recalled the outdoor shoots and her scenes with Jeetendra. She remembered that clicking photos with flowers flying in the air and bright costumes was a different kind of fun. Shooting scenes with Jeetendra always brought positive energy to the set. Mandakini also revealed that Singhasan was shot simultaneously in Hindi and Telugu. While Jeetendra was her co-star in the Hindi version, the Telugu version featured South superstar Krishna Garu opposite her. The Telugu scenes were filmed first, and the same setup was later used for the Hindi version. Mandakini often had to continue with different expressions for both versions after the heroes finished their shots. She called this challenging but noted that such moments taught an actor the most.
Mandakini is best remembered for Raj Kapoor's Ram Teri Ganga Maili. She also appeared in films like Dance Dance, Commando, Jeete Hain Shaan Se, and Na-Insaafi. Singhasan was produced and directed by Krishna under the Padmalaya Studios banner.
