The Odia film industry and the political circles of Kendrapada are in mourning following the demise of veteran film producer Rabindra Mohan Sahoo. The 82-year-old passed away on Wednesday while receiving treatment at a private hospital in Bhubaneswar. He had been battling age-related health issues.

Born in 1943 in Badahat village within Kendrapada town, Rabindra Mohan Sahoo embarked on his film production journey in 1987. His debut Odia film was titled 'Eie ta T Dunia'. Over the years, he built a formidable portfolio, producing approximately 15 films that became part of Odia household entertainment.

His notable productions include popular titles such as 'Bastra Haran', 'Bohu Hebo Emiti', 'Pacheri Uthila Majhi Duaru', and 'Naga Panchami'. Other significant works from his banner were 'Mani Nageswari', 'Sasu Hata Kari Bhauja Bedi', 'Kulanandan', 'Rasik Nagara', and 'Aalo Mora Kandhei'. Through these films, Sahoo contributed significantly to the regional cinema landscape, entertaining audiences for decades.

Life Beyond Cinema: Political Journey and Family

Rabindra Mohan Sahoo's life was not confined to the film sets. He was actively involved in public service and politics. In the 1970s, he served as a councillor of the Kendrapada Municipal Corporation. His political affiliation led him to join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the 1980s.

He took a plunge into electoral politics by contesting from the Kendrapada assembly seat, although he was unsuccessful. His commitment to community service was further reflected in his role as the president of the Baladevjew temple managing committee during the 1990s.

He is survived by five sons and a daughter. His daughter-in-law, Sarita Sahoo, currently holds the position of chairperson of the Kendrapada municipality, continuing the family's association with civic administration.

The final journey of the noted producer was a solemn affair. His last rites were performed at Swargadwar in Puri, where his body was consigned to the flames. His passing has elicited grief from across various sections of society.
