Kannada Actor Raajesh Dhruva Embarks on Cinematic Journey with Personal Film 'Peter'

After dedicating over a decade to television, Kannada actor Raajesh Dhruva is now making a significant transition into the world of cinema. He is preparing for the release of his upcoming film Peter on April 10, a project he describes as deeply personal and the culmination of years of dedicated effort.

Years of Preparation and Intense Character Immersion

Raajesh Dhruva reveals that his collaboration with director Sukesh Shetty has been a long-held aspiration, sparked after watching Shetty's earlier work Doordarshana. Peter represents three years of meticulous hard work and creative development. The actor emphasizes that preparing for the titular role demanded an extraordinary level of commitment, affecting every aspect of his being.

"Preparing for the titular role demanded intense commitment — from my look and body to my mental state," he states. Raajesh began immersing himself in the character a full four months before filming commenced, a process that brought profound changes to his personal and social life. "It brought significant changes to my personal and social life. I consciously chose isolation," he shares, highlighting the sacrifices made for artistic authenticity.

Navigating the Challenging Shift from Television to Films

Reflecting on his professional evolution, Raajesh acknowledges that the shift from television to feature films has presented considerable challenges. He contrasts the two mediums, noting that television often limits actor choice and relies on exaggerated performances.

"Television rarely allows you to choose your characters - it's often about appearance and exaggeration," he explains. "In films, everything is more nuanced. You underplay, but at the same time, you invest your heart and soul into a role for months." This nuanced approach, he believes, allows for deeper artistic expression and connection with the audience.

'Peter' Aims to Redefine Perceptions of Kannada Cinema

Expressing strong confidence in the film's potential impact, Raajesh Dhruva believes Peter will actively challenge and change preconceived notions about the Kannada film industry. He addresses a common perception that Kannada films do not match the production quality or scale of other regional industries.

"There's a perception that Kannada films don't match other industries. But after watching the trailer, some even assumed it was a Malayalam remake," he notes. "However, I believe this film will change that. It will showcase the scale, the production quality, and the richness of Karnataka's culture." The actor is optimistic that the film will serve as a benchmark for future projects in the industry.

Balancing Actor and Director Instincts on Set

As someone who is also a director, Raajesh admits to experiencing the natural instinct to contribute creatively beyond his acting role. He found director Sukesh Shetty to be exceptionally open to collaborative input during the filming process.

"I did feel the urge to give inputs on the script and a few shots, and Sukesh was very open to it," he explains. However, he consciously chose to prioritize his performance, trusting in Shetty's technical expertise. "But my contribution to the direction was minimal — he's a highly skilled technician. I chose to focus on my performance," Raajesh concludes, underscoring the professional respect and focused teamwork that defined the project's execution.
