'Peddi,' the much-awaited movie starring Ram Charan, has finally hit screens worldwide from today, June 3, with grand premieres planned across various cities. Since its announcement, 'Peddi' has been one of the most anticipated films in the Tollywood industry. The excitement has been building steadily through the release of its teaser, trailer, songs, and other promotional materials.
Given the strong pre-release commercial performance, 'Peddi' is poised to deliver an exceptional opening week at the box office.
A Rural Sports Drama with a Stellar Cast
Directed by Babu Sana Buchi, 'Peddi' is a rural sports drama set against the backdrop of 1980s sports action and drama. Ram Charan plays the lead role of Peddi Pehelwan, a character defined by an insatiable fighting spirit. Janhvi Kapoor stars as Achiyyamma. The supporting cast includes notable actors such as Shiv Rajkumar, Jagapathi Babu, Divyendu Sharma, and Boman Irani.
The musical score for 'Peddi' has been composed by A.R. Rahman, whose songs and background score have already heightened audience expectations. The film's narrative explores themes of sports, village pride, love affairs, and the protagonist's personal struggles.
Record-Breaking Pre-Release Business
'Peddi' has achieved impressive business figures even before its theatrical release. According to reports from Filmibeat, the theatrical rights for the Telugu states were sold for a staggering Rs 165 crore. The film reportedly needs to earn around Rs 265 crore gross from the Telugu states alone to reach the breakeven point. Overseas rights have fetched approximately Rs 40 crore, with a breakeven target of nearly Rs 85 crore.
These numbers reflect the immense confidence that distributors and exhibitors have in the film. The success of pre-release operations has further fueled optimism about its box office performance.
Pan-India Release Strategy
Unlike a typical Telugu release, 'Peddi' is being launched as a pan-Indian film in multiple languages, including Telugu, Hindi, Tamil, Kannada, and Malayalam. Trade experts estimate that the film needs to generate around Rs 140 crore gross from non-Telugu territories. Overall, the film is targeting a worldwide gross of nearly Rs 500 crore to establish itself as a major pan-India success.
Only a select few Telugu films have crossed the Rs 500 crore mark globally. Consequently, 'Peddi' enters theaters with both immense opportunities and significant expectations.
OTT Release on Netflix
While the focus is currently on the theatrical release, fans are equally curious about the film's OTT plans. The official streaming release date has not yet been announced. However, Netflix has acquired the online rights to 'Peddi,' and the film will premiere on the platform after its theatrical run.
Following recent industry trends, the movie is expected to appear on Netflix between six to ten weeks after its release date. Until then, all attention will remain on the box office as Ram Charan aims to deliver one of the biggest blockbusters of his career, following his success in 'RRR' with SS Rajamouli.
