'Peddi,' the much-anticipated film starring Ram Charan, has finally hit theaters worldwide from today, June 3, with grand premieres scheduled across various cities. Since its announcement, 'Peddi' has been one of the most awaited movies in the Tollywood industry, with anticipation building steadily through teasers, trailers, songs, and other promotional activities.
Given its promising commercial performance even before release, 'Peddi' is poised for an exceptional opening week. Directed by Babu Sana Buchi, the film is a rural sports drama set against the backdrop of 1980s sports action and drama. Ram Charan plays Peddi Pehelwan, a character with an unyielding fighting spirit, while Janhvi Kapoor portrays Achiyyamma. The cast also includes Shiv Rajkumar, Jagapathi Babu, Divyendu Sharma, and Boman Irani.
Music and Plot
The musical score for 'Peddi' has been composed by A.R. Rahman, whose songs and background score have already heightened audience expectations. The film's narrative encompasses themes of sports, village pride, romantic entanglements, and the protagonist's personal struggles.
Pre-Release Business Records
'Peddi' has achieved impressive pre-release business figures. According to reports, the theatrical rights in the Telugu states were sold for Rs 165 crore. The film needs approximately Rs 265 crore gross from the Telugu states alone to break even. Overseas rights have reportedly fetched Rs 40 crore, with a break-even target of nearly Rs 85 crore. These figures reflect the high confidence distributors and theater owners have in the film, raising hopes for its box office success.
Pan-India Release Strategy
Unlike a typical Telugu release, 'Peddi' is arriving as a pan-Indian film in Telugu, Hindi, Tamil, Kannada, and Malayalam. Trade experts estimate that the film requires around Rs 140 crore gross from non-Telugu territories. Overall, the film is targeting a worldwide gross of nearly Rs 500 crore to emerge as a major pan-India success. Only a few Telugu films have crossed the Rs 500 crore mark globally, placing 'Peddi' under both immense opportunity and significant expectations.
OTT Rights Acquired by Netflix
While the spotlight is currently on the theatrical release, fans are equally eager about the film's OTT plans. The official streaming release date has not been announced yet, but Netflix has secured the online rights for 'Peddi.' The movie will premiere on the platform after its theatrical run. Following industry trends, the film is expected to be available on Netflix between six to ten weeks after its launch. Until then, all attention will be on the box office performance as Ram Charan aims to deliver one of the biggest blockbusters of his career following his success in 'RRR' with SS Rajamouli.
