Ranveer Singh has reportedly secured the rights to the bestselling fantasy novel The Immortals of Meluha by Amish Tripathi, positioning himself to portray Lord Shiva in a large-scale film trilogy. The actor is said to be developing the project under his own production banner, with plans to create a mythological cinematic universe spanning three films.
Acquisition of Rights
According to Pinkvilla, Singh acquired the adaptation rights for a substantial undisclosed sum. The source close to the development revealed that Singh has been passionate about bringing Meluha to the big screen for an extended period. The acquisition was finalized recently, and the project is now officially under development. The makers are approaching the franchise as a long-term cinematic universe, with the story unfolding over three films.
About the Book Series
The Immortals of Meluha is the first book in the popular Shiva Trilogy, reimagining Lord Shiva as a heroic figure destined to change the fate of an ancient civilization. The trilogy has garnered a massive following since its release.
Production Timeline
While the cast is yet to be finalized, the team has begun work on the screenplay and world-building. Production on the first installment is expected to begin in 2028. This ambitious timeline suggests meticulous planning for the cinematic universe.
Akshay Kumar's Missed Opportunity
Akshay Kumar, who had launched the cover of Tripathi's book Scion of Ikshvaku, revealed that he regretted not buying the rights to The Immortals of Meluha when it was first published. At a launch event, Kumar said, "I still remember that when Amish's first book on Lord Shiva had come out, I was advised to buy the rights and make a film on it. I had seen the cover of the book and was not convinced that I could play Lord Shiva. However, when Karan Johar later told me about the story, I felt that I actually missed out on something. So the moral of the story – It is good to read books."
Ranveer Singh's Upcoming Projects
Before stepping into the world of Meluha, Singh has a packed film slate. Fresh from the back-to-back successes of Dhurandhar and Dhurandhar: The Revenge, he is expected to begin work on filmmaker Aditya Dhar's next project from March 2027. Additionally, Singh is attached to the zombie film Pralay, directed by Jay Mehta, which is scheduled to go on floors in August 2026.
With this monumental role, Ranveer Singh is set to embark on one of the most ambitious projects in Indian cinema, bringing a beloved mythological narrative to life on the big screen.
