Namakkal: A total of Rs 8.60 lakh in cash was stolen from two textile shops in Tiruchengode in Namakkal district during the early hours of Wednesday. The thefts occurred at Saraswathi Cloth Store and Central Silks Showroom, which are located opposite each other on North Rath Road.
According to police, Rs 5.80 lakh was taken from Saraswathi Cloth Store, while Rs 2.80 lakh was stolen from Central Silks Showroom after the lockers were broken open. The burglars gained entry by breaking through the ventilator area of Saraswathi Cloth Store.
On Wednesday morning, employees arriving at Saraswathi Cloth Store discovered the broken ventilator and immediately informed the Tiruchengode town police. A team led by Deputy Superintendent of Police V Krishnan conducted an intensive investigation. During the probe, police found that Central Silks Showroom had also been broken into.
Fingerprint experts were called to the scene to collect evidence. Police are currently examining CCTV footage from the shops and nearby areas to identify the suspects. Further investigations are underway.
