Hamsalekha Announces Memorial

Veteran music director Hamsalekha, who paid his tributes, shared that all artists will come together to build a memorial for S Janaki at Kaniyanahundi in H D Kote taluk. The cremation was scheduled for around 3 pm on July 12, 2026.

According to Hamsalekha, the memorial will be a fitting tribute to the legendary singer who contributed immensely to Indian cinema. He urged fans and well-wishers to support the initiative.

Emotional Farewell

Thousands of mourners lined the streets as the funeral procession moved through Mysuru. Many fans were seen in tears, holding placards and singing her iconic songs. Celebrities from the Kannada film industry, including actors and musicians, were present to bid adieu.

"S Janaki's voice was a gift to the nation. Her songs will continue to inspire generations," said a fan who had traveled from Bengaluru to pay respects.

S Janaki, known for her versatile voice, recorded over 48,000 songs in multiple languages including Kannada, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and Hindi. She received several awards, including the Padma Shri and National Film Awards. Her passing marks the end of an era in Indian playback singing.
