Actress Shiny Doshi, who portrays the role of a chef in the new show 'Ishk Dum Aur Idli Rasam', has shared insights into her preparation for the character Meera Nair. She emphasized the importance of understanding the character's tonality and cultural nuances to bring authenticity to the screen.
A Unique Kitchen Drama
Shiny Doshi expressed that the show felt special from the beginning because it is not a typical kitchen drama. She stated, "Every once in a while, a character arrives that changes the way you approach your craft, and Meera was that for me." Playing a culinary artist was a new experience for her, which sparked her curiosity about the project.
Character Background
The show is set against the backdrop of a heritage South Indian restaurant. Meera Nair is a warm and instinctive head chef who upholds her late father's philosophy that food is service, not spectacle. Her life takes an unexpected turn when Arjun Thakur, played by Abhishek Kumar, enters her kitchen as a global chef-investor determined to revive the family restaurant.
Focus on Authenticity
To bring Meera to life, Shiny Doshi concentrated on understanding the character's tonality, cultural nuances, and natural way of speaking, avoiding an overly stylized approach. She mentioned, "During our workshops and readings, the entire team at Balaji Studios was very clear that authenticity was extremely important." She picked up a slight South Indian twang in Meera's speech to make the character believable and organic, noting that even a small pronunciation mistake can stand out to the audience.
Emotional Realism
The actress added that it wasn't about mastering a language but ensuring the emotions felt real in every scene. She admitted, "It wasn't easy at all, but I genuinely enjoyed the process because it helped me get closer to Meera as a person."
