The government now permits theatres to screen five shows daily for newly released Tamil films during their first seven days in theatres. Actor Vishal took to X (formerly Twitter) to write: "Thank you, dear @CMOTamilnadu #Vijay avargale, darling of the masses and the most prolific actor turned politician, for understanding the current situation in the film industry and implementing five shows a day for all films for the first 7 days of the film's theatrical release." He added: "Looking forward to more GOs passed for the general public in all sectors, bringing about relief and progressive growth. A big whistle from all of us." The new rule also applies on local festival days, public holidays, Saturdays, and Sundays.
Vijay Announces Relief for New Films
The decision followed a meeting between film industry representatives and Vijay on May 16, during which several requests were submitted. A key demand was permission for five daily screenings for new films. After reviewing the request, the government amended the Tamil Nadu Cinema Theatres (Regulation) Rules and approved the change.
Producers No Longer Need Special Permission
The new order simplifies processes for producers and theatre owners. Previously, extra permissions were required for additional screenings. With this change, producers no longer need to approach the government or licensing officers for approval of the fifth show during the permitted period. The government shared the announcement via an official note from the Chief Minister's office. This move is expected to help films reach larger audiences during the crucial opening week.
