TFPC Rejects Nadigar Sangam's Allegations, Defends Profit-Sharing Model
TFPC Rejects Nadigar Sangam Allegations Over Profit-Sharing

The Tamil Film Producers Council (TFPC) has issued a comprehensive response to the South Indian Artistes Association (Nadigar Sangam), addressing recent tensions between the two industry bodies. The reply follows TFPC's general body meeting held on April 26 under the leadership of its newly elected president, Tamil Kumaran.

Key Decisions Spark Controversy

During the meeting, several significant resolutions were passed, including the introduction of a profit-sharing model for actors and technicians, as well as the implementation of an eight-week gap before theatrical releases become available on OTT platforms. Additionally, TFPC announced a token strike beginning May 2, a move that prompted a strong reaction from Nadigar Sangam.

TFPC Denies Allegations as False

In its official reply, TFPC categorically rejected the allegations made by Nadigar Sangam. According to a report by Nakkheeran, the producers' body stated that claims of making baseless accusations are "not true" and accused the actors' association of disseminating incorrect information through the media.

TFPC clarified that all decisions were taken with the welfare of the Tamil film industry as the primary consideration. The council emphasized that the ongoing reform discussions are not a sudden development but part of a long-term plan that has been deliberated with multiple industry stakeholders.

Profit-Sharing Model: A Long-Standing Proposal

The council highlighted that discussions regarding the reorganization of the industry have been ongoing since August 2024. Talks were held among TFPC, Nadigar Sangam, and the South India Film Employees Federation (SIFFE).

TFPC stated that it officially introduced the profit-sharing model for lead actors on August 18, 2024. However, the concept was communicated much earlier, in June 2023. According to the producers, Nadigar Sangam responded by stating that a final decision would be made only after internal meetings with actors, but no clear outcome has been shared to date.

Strike Announcement with Room for Dialogue

The producers' body expressed disappointment over Nadigar Sangam's claim that it was not informed about these discussions. TFPC insisted that the matter had been repeatedly raised in meetings and communicated verbally to key office bearers of the actors' association.

TFPC further stated that the delay in decision-making has placed significant financial pressure on producers. As a result, the council was compelled to announce a token strike. However, the ultimatum is not final; TFPC indicated that the strike decision could be reconsidered if Nadigar Sangam agrees to immediate talks. Nonetheless, the strike will proceed as planned unless a last-minute resolution is reached.
