SS Rajamouli's upcoming film 'Varanasi' continues to generate immense anticipation among movie enthusiasts. The film features Mahesh Babu, Priyanka Chopra, and Prithviraj Sukumaran in pivotal roles. Since the release of its first glimpse, audiences have been actively speculating about the plot and its potential mythological connections. Writer Vijayendra Prasad has now shared fresh insights during a recent interaction session.
Writer Teases Major Ramayana Sequence
During an open house session hosted by Filmy Focus, Vijayendra Prasad was questioned about a sequence he had previously mentioned. This sequence had already become a hot topic among fans. When asked whether the much-discussed 30-minute segment was linked to mythology, politics, or spirituality, he replied, "It's a war between Rama and Kumbhakarna."
Vijayendra Prasad elaborated on certain visuals that audiences had already seen. He hinted that clues might already be present in the promotional material. He stated, "You saw in the trailer, right? You saw Rama and Kumbhakarna. You saw Lord Hanuman's tail and a chariot on it. I'm talking about that…spellbound." He refrained from divulging further details about the scene. Another question touched upon the possibility of time zones being part of the film's storyline, but he chose not to elaborate, simply saying, "We shouldn't talk about it anymore."
Film Stars Mahesh Babu, Priyanka Chopra, and Prithviraj Sukumaran
'Varanasi' features Mahesh Babu in the role of Rudhra. Priyanka Chopra plays Mandakini, while Prithviraj Sukumaran portrays Kumbha. The project is directed by SS Rajamouli and is currently in the production stage. The makers are targeting a theatrical release during Sankranti 2027.
Prithviraj Sukumaran Opens Up About His Challenging Role
Earlier, Prithviraj Sukumaran shared his experience of playing Kumbha in the film. He explained that the role pushed him into a different acting space. According to the actor, performers typically rely on body language along with expressions during scenes. He revealed that this role significantly altered that process. Prithviraj told Collider, "You are always aware that your body is available as a communication tool. Then you are put in a situation where nothing from the neck down is visible, and you realize that whatever you do physically will not be seen." He added, "Everything you have at your disposal is concentrated on your face. What you need to convey must come through your face and eyes." Speaking about the role, he noted that the complexity made the character even more intriguing for him. He concluded by saying, "Definitely one of the most complex characters Rajamouli sir has conceived."
'Varanasi' is currently under production and remains one of the most awaited releases in the coming years.
