Kit Harington has given fans renewed hope that the cancelled Jon Snow spin-off from 'Game of Thrones' might not be permanently shelved. Speaking at Motor City Comic Con, the actor revealed that while initial development of the sequel series was paused, the character's survival leaves the door open for a potential return if the right narrative emerges.
Kit Harington Teases Jon Snow's Return
During a panel discussion, Harington acknowledged that efforts were made to develop the spin-off, but the creative team ultimately decided to halt the project. 'It's open knowledge that we tried to make a Jon Snow show for a little while, and just couldn't. My main thing is not wanting to go there and do an injustice by the character,' he stated, as reported by ScreenRant.
Reflecting on Jon Snow's Arc
Harington reflected on his character's journey in 'Game of Thrones', expressing satisfaction with how Jon Snow's story concluded. 'I think he ended well. I think that he went where he was meant to. So if you pick him up again, it needs to be for the right reasons,' he explained. The actor emphasized that the team struggled to find a compelling enough story to move forward, leading to the decision to set the project aside for the moment.
'We couldn't find the right thing. So we put it down. For the moment. Maybe there'll be a time... you know, he's not dead, and that's the amazing thing, is that he could be picked up again,' Harington added. This update comes over two years after the project was shelved in 2024, following the conclusion of the original fantasy drama in 2019.
'Game of Thrones' Spin-offs in the Works
Despite mixed reactions to the original series' ending, HBO continues to expand the Westeros franchise with spin-offs like 'House of the Dragon' and 'A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms'. Additionally, live-action shows such as 'Aegon's Conquest' and '10,000 Ships' are in development, along with animated projects including 'The Sea Snake (Nine Voyages)'.
