The new year has brought a powerful career shift for actor Amruta Khanvilkar, who is stepping into the action genre for the first time on a digital platform. Her upcoming series, the action thriller 'Taskaree', released its trailer and is set to premiere on Netflix on January 14. The show, directed by Neeraj Pandey, also stars Emraan Hashmi.
A Bang Start to 2025 and a Digital Leap
For Khanvilkar, this project holds special significance as it set the tone for her year. She revealed that 2025 started with a bang because she began filming for 'Taskaree' in January of the previous year, calling it an incredible experience. This series marks her first-ever association with the Netflix streaming platform, a collaboration she describes as immensely happy-making.
Interestingly, she landed the role without going through a conventional audition process. "Thanks to casting director Vicky Sadanah, I met Neeraj sir and performed a single scene. He loved it, and that was it," Khanvilkar shared. She emphasized that this is her first action web series, requiring her to perform numerous action sequences, making it an important career milestone.
Becoming Mitali: The Badass Customs Officer
In 'Taskaree', Amruta Khanvilkar plays Mitali, a core and formidable member of a customs team. She expressed great enjoyment in stepping into this character's shoes, describing Mitali as a total badass and relishing the chance to explore this new side of her acting abilities.
The Neeraj Pandey Experience and Grand Scale
Working under director Neeraj Pandey was a standout experience for the actor. She praised his phenomenal vision and execution, noting that every moment on his set is fast-paced and dynamic, keeping actors constantly alert. Khanvilkar compared the filming style to live theatre, involving long takes, multiple movements, and scenes with many people sharing the frame, highlighting Pandey's skill in handling large crowds.
The scale of the production also left a mark. The team filmed at real-life locations, including the Mumbai airport 'Taskaree' is not Khanvilkar's only digital release this January. She is also set to appear in Disney Plus Hotstar's 'Space Gen Chandrayaan', which begins streaming on January 23.
