Kim Seon-ho Vows Indian Fans Will Love His New Romantic Drama
Popular South Korean actor Kim Seon-ho has made a heartfelt promise to his Indian fans. He assures them they will not be disappointed with his upcoming Netflix series "Can This Love Be Translated?". The star hopes this new show creates viral moments similar to the famous 'smile challenge' from his previous hit drama "When Life Gives You Tangerines".
A Global Star's Message to His Indian Supporters
Kim Seon-ho is one of the top stars in the South Korean entertainment industry. He has gained worldwide fame through popular K-dramas like "Good Manager", "Start-Up", and "Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha". In an exclusive interview with PTI from Seoul, the actor shared his deep appreciation for the love he receives from India.
"I just feel so grateful for all the Indian fans showing us so much love and support," Seon-ho said. "As an actor, it is the most rewarding and exciting thing to know that people are waiting for your next work. They are curious about what you're doing. I feel very proud, excited, and happy because of that."
He emphasized the team's dedication to meeting fan expectations. "We did our very best in creating this drama series to respond to that love. Now it's just days away, and you will be able to watch it. We poured everything into it to make sure we didn't let you down. I think I can dare say you will not be disappointed," the actor added confidently.
Inside 'Can This Love Be Translated?'
The new show is set to premiere on Netflix this Friday. It tells the story of an unexpected romance between a multilingual interpreter named Joo Ho-jin, played by Kim Seon-ho, and a global celebrity named Cha Mu-hee, portrayed by Go Youn-jung. The plot follows them as they travel the world filming a dating show with Japanese actor Hiro, played by Sota Fukushi.
According to the official logline, Ho-jin's task is to translate between Mu-hee and Hiro. During this process, he unexpectedly finds his own heart hanging in the balance. The drama comes from the creative minds of the famous Hong sisters, Hong Jung-eun and Hong Mi-ran. They are renowned for writing popular romantic and fantasy K-dramas such as "You're Beautiful", "My Girlfriend Is a Gumiho", "Hotel del Luna", and "Alchemy of Souls". Yoo Young-eun directs the series.
Reflecting on Past Viral Fame and Hopes for New Moments
Kim Seon-ho became an internet sensation when his dimpled smile from the drama "When Life Gives You Tangerines" went viral on social media. Fans across the globe, including in India, participated in the 'smile challenge', recreating his heartwarming reaction from a key scene.
The actor described the experience as strange yet wonderful. "I did not expect that particular scene with my smile to go viral at all," he admitted. "When I realized how much love people were showing for that scene, and the many challenges they were doing, it was a very strange feeling. To think something you did in character for a drama series is so widely loved, becomes viral, and has your face attached to all those challenges was a new feeling I hadn't experienced before."
When asked if he hopes for similar viral moments from his new drama, Seon-ho pointed to two specific scenes featuring his co-star Go Youn-jung. "For this drama series, it's not really a scene that I'm in. It's the scene where Youn-jung says 'aurora' and the other one, which is also in the trailer, where she makes this little gesture, imitating a bobble head cat toy. I hope those two scenes go viral," he shared with a smile.
Embracing New Challenges as an Actor
The 39-year-old actor has an extensive background in theatre and supporting roles in K-dramas like "Two Cops" and "The Strongest Deliveryman". He rose to global fame with the 2020 series "Start-Up". Seon-ho expressed his joy in taking on new challenges with each character he portrays.
In "Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha", he played a "do-it-all" handyman. Now, in "Can This Love Be Translated?", he portrays a polyglot interpreter. Both roles required him to master specific skills, which he thoroughly enjoyed.
"As an actor, when I'm working on a new character and a new project, I also like to take on new challenges. That is something I find joy in because we get to live a different life vicariously through them. That really makes my heart beat," Seon-ho explained.
He concluded with genuine warmth, "I love to watch my fans enjoy my work. I also really love the character that I turn into. That's something that brings me great happiness, and it feels very rewarding to me." With his sincere promise and dedicated effort, Indian fans have much to anticipate as they await the premiere of his latest romantic adventure.
