Story

When a British lawyer joins an American airline's legal department, he instantly falls for the CEO, who seems to reciprocate. However, the company's strict zero-tolerance dating policy threatens their romance.

Jackie Cruz (Jennifer Lopez) is a high-flying airline CEO and accomplished pilot. She runs Air Cruz, a charter flight company founded by her father (Edward James Olmos). Despite her business acumen making it profitable, the board wants to replace her due to an ongoing legal dispute with a competitor.

Daniel (Brett Goldstein) moves to New Jersey as second-in-command to legal head Peter Vance (Bradley Whitford). When Peter chokes on a breakfast burrito before a deposition, Jackie calls Daniel to fill in. They meet, and he instantly falls for her, but the moment is awkwardly interrupted by his embarrassing erection, leading Jackie to ask him to leave.

Daniel later impresses her with his legal skills, and she promotes him despite Vance's return. Jackie's pregnant deputy, Sydney (Betty Gilpin), suspects their spark and warns against it, comparing them to a mismatched couple. However, during a trip to the Dominican Republic, Jackie and Daniel give in to their desires, agreeing to keep it professional back home. They fail, leading to complications and Daniel hiding his reasons for moving to Jersey.

The film, written by Goldstein and Joe Kelly, was tailored for Lopez, who shines in glamorous power suits. However, Jackie's portrayal as a tough boss is contradicted by her needy and vulnerable interactions. The humor mixes risqué and double-entendre jokes about cultural clashes between Brits and Americans, but not all land. A birthing scene feels misplaced, though end credits offer good laughs. The plot twist is predictable, and tonal shifts are jarring.

Lopez and Goldstein share decent chemistry but not enough to swoon. Betty Gilpin impresses as the high-strung, pregnant deputy. Directed by Ol Parker (The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again), whose 2022 rom-com Ticket to Paradise received a tepid response, Office Romance doesn't sweep you off your feet. Still, its old-school romance tropes may appeal to some viewers.
