Paresh Ganatra, who has been in the entertainment industry for 28 years, is known for movies like 'Aankhen', 'Welcome', 'No Entry' and television shows like 'Baa Bahu Baby'. Despite his long career, the actor admits to being typecast in comedy roles. However, his latest series 'Made in India: A Titan Story' sees him in a different light. The show, which also stars Naseeruddin Shah and Jim Sarbh, is based on the true story of how JRD Tata started Titan.
Breaking Free from Comedy
In a recent interview with ETimes, Ganatra opened up about his journey and the show. He revealed that it is very easy for people to put actors in a box, but one needs people willing to take a risk and have faith in an actor to pull off a part. He said, "For me the most exciting part was that it was a real story and that my character is not doing comedy. An actor always feels that working in the comfort zone is not good. We believe that we are versatile and we want to show that to people. For me the biggest reason to do this show is that my character is not doing comedy."
Learning from Co-Stars
Ganatra expressed his admiration for his co-stars, saying, "There are so many great actors in the show like Jim Sarbh and Naseer bhai and every actor always wants to learn. Though, unfortunately, I didn't have any scenes with Naseer bhai." He also discussed his preparation for the role, emphasizing spontaneity and seriousness. "I usually believe in spontaneity. Also largely comedy happens with improvisations and that has been the take in most of my films. Though this time around, I paid attention to the seriousness of the character and not going out of it. I try not to make it technical. I feel eventually, it's always a collaborative effort which brings out a good scene."
Need for Industry Support
The actor also highlighted the need for more industry professionals to believe in actors for different roles. "Someone has to put the faith in an actor. Someone should say, 'let's take a risk on Paresh and let's see if he can pull it off'." 'Made in India: A Titan Story' began streaming on June 3.
