Ruth Codd's Second Amputation and Recovery

Irish actress and Celebrity Traitors participant Ruth Codd has undergone a significant medical procedure, having her second leg amputated. The 29-year-old public figure is currently in the process of recovery, sharing her journey openly with her followers.

On November 26, Codd posted a video on TikTok from her parents' house, where she is recuperating. In her signature candid style, she announced, "Good news, we've had a full-circle moment. I'm back making TikTok content in my parents' house. Bad news, I can't do it upstairs because I've just had my second below-knee amputation." She added, "There's a lot to unpack for everyone involved," hinting at the emotional complexity of the situation.

A Longstanding Medical Journey

This recent surgery is not Codd's first experience with amputation. Her medical challenges began with a soccer injury at the age of 15 that never properly healed. After eight years of persistent issues and numerous operations, she made the difficult decision to have her right leg amputated at 23.

In a 2022 interview with Teen Vogue, Codd reflected on that challenging period. "I got injured at 15, and I didn't get my leg amputated until I was 23. So, those eight years were operation after operation, and sometimes they kind of worked for a while, and then I'd end up back on crutches," she shared. "At that age, you think you're unstoppable, and it was a lot of having to learn a bit too young that sometimes life doesn't really work out the way you thought it would."

Despite the physical and emotional toll, Codd has emerged with a powerful perspective on resilience. She described the initial amputation as the "best thing I ever did," explaining how it finally freed her from chronic pain. "The first step I remember taking on my prosthetic leg, the first thing I said was, 'Oh, it's not sore anymore.' I didn't even realise how much pain I was in all the time. I had just got used to it," she revealed.

Advocacy for Disability Representation

Ruth Codd has become a prominent voice for disability representation in mainstream media. Her rise to fame began on TikTok, which eventually led to her breakthrough role in Netflix's The Midnight Club, produced by Mike Flanagan.

In the series, she portrayed Anya, an amputee with a terminal illness. Codd has been vocal about the importance of this role, stating, "You don't get a lot of disabled representation in media nowadays. A lot of times, we're forgotten about. When we are represented, we're either this kind of saintly little thing that didn't deserve for this to happen to her or you're portrayed as bitter."

She praised her character Anya for being authentically human. "Whereas Anya, she's just human, and the emphasis is on her character and not so much her disability. She's a firecracker — really ballsy and funny," Codd explained. Her recent television appearance was on Celebrity Traitors UK, further expanding her presence in the entertainment industry.

Through her ongoing health journey and public platform, Ruth Codd continues to inspire many with her honesty and strength, turning personal challenges into a source of empowerment and advocacy for better representation.
