Streaming Giant Unveils 2025 Korean Originals: Webtoons & Cross-Border Hits
Streaming Service Reveals 2025 Korean Originals Lineup

A major global streaming service has unveiled an exciting and imaginative lineup of Korean original content for 2025, featuring bold new storytelling approaches and beloved webtoon adaptations. The announcement came during a special event held at a prominent hotel in Hong Kong on November 13, where nine new Korean series were introduced to audiences.

Fresh Takes on Popular Webtoons

The 2025 lineup prominently features original series adapted from popular webtoons, bringing comic book characters to life with innovative storytelling techniques. All these webtoon-based series originate from Naver Webtoon, marking a significant strategic shift from the platform's previous approach to Korean originals.

One of the most anticipated adaptations is 'Remarriage & Desires', starring Lee Jong-suk and Shin Min-ah. Set in the fictional Dongdae Empire, the series follows Empress Nam Seo-rae (played by Shin Min-ah) as she decides to pursue divorce, while Prince Heinley (Lee Jong-suk) develops romantic feelings for her. The original webtoon has achieved remarkable success with over 2.6 billion accumulated global views.

Another significant adaptation, 'Seduction', based on the webtoon of the same name, transports viewers to 1935 Keijo (present-day Seoul). The story follows painter Yoon Yi-ho (Kim Seon-ho) as he paints the portrait of an ageless woman named Song Jeong-hwa (Suzy) and gradually uncovers her mysterious secret.

Innovative Collaborations and New Formats

The streaming platform is breaking new ground with its first-ever Korea-Japan co-produced series, currently working under the title 'Merry Berry Love'. This youthful romance chronicles the story of Korean spatial designer Lee Yubin (Ji Chang-wook) and Japanese strawberry farmer Shirahama Karin (Imada Mio) as they operate a farm together on a remote Japanese island.

In a completely different genre, the platform is introducing 'Fate War 49', a unique survival variety show featuring 49 fortune tellers competing through various missions to test their predictive abilities. Hosted by top Korean entertainers, the show aims to introduce K-shamanism culture to international audiences in an entertaining format.

Returning Favorites and Highly Anticipated Releases

Leading the most anticipated releases is 'Made in Korea', a serious melodrama set in the turbulent 1970s starring Hyun Bin and Jung Woo-sung. The series is scheduled to premiere on December 24 and has already confirmed a second season, which will be directed by Woo Min-ho.

Fans of action series will welcome the return of 'Killer's Shopping Mall' for its second season, which will introduce new characters from both Japan and Korea. The popular variety series featuring BTS members Jimin and Jungkook, 'Is This Right?! Season 2', is set to premiere on December 3, offering entertainment beyond scripted dramas.

The diverse 2025 lineup demonstrates the streaming service's continued commitment to Korean content production, blending traditional storytelling with innovative formats and international collaborations that appeal to global audiences while maintaining strong Korean cultural elements.
