Ekadashi holds great religious and spiritual significance among Hindus. Falling twice a month during Shukla Paksha and Krishna Paksha, it is one of the most auspicious and sacred days to perform puja rituals associated with Lord Vishnu. This day emphasizes detachment and self-control. In a materialistic world full of uncertainties, people often seek inner peace and spiritual growth. Understanding the importance of spirituality, inner peace, and salvation, Ekadashi offers the best way to detach from the material world and find serenity. It serves as a reminder to pause and prioritize spiritual growth. The fast is so powerful that it can remove negative karma accumulated in past lives and bring peace of mind.
Ekadashi Puja Rituals in May 2026
- Wake up early in the morning and take a holy bath before starting puja rituals. It is ideal to wake up during Brahma Muhurat.
- Perform Naam Japa, which is considered truly meritorious during Brahma Muhurat on Ekadashi.
- Place a wooden plank and set an idol of Lord Vishnu on it.
- Light a diya with desi ghee, adorn the idol with new clothes and a yellow flower garland.
- Choose one or two Lord Vishnu mantras and chant them 108 times to invoke the idol.
- Offer Tulsi Patra (basil leaves), as the puja is considered incomplete without it. However, Tulsi leaves should be plucked a day before Ekadashi, not on the day itself.
- Offer five seasonal fruits, dry fruits, and homemade sweets as Bhog Prasad.
- Recite the Ekadashi Katha and complete the puja by chanting the Aarti.
- The fast is broken on Dwadashi Tithi. Those who cannot bear hunger may break the fast in the evening with sattvik food, while others break it the next day on Dwadashi Tithi.
