The sixth countdown day of 'Yoga Mahotsav-2026' concluded on Monday at Bharat Adhyayan Kendra in Varanasi, featuring public participation. The event was part of a series of national countdown programmes organized by Bharat Adhyayan Kendra and Banaras Hindu University, in collaboration with the Ministry of Ayush, Government of India, and Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga (MDNIY), New Delhi, on the occasion of International Day of Yoga-2026.

Theme of Yoga Mahotsav-2026

The theme for this year's Yoga Mahotsav was 'Yoga for Healthy Ageing (Swasth evam Sakriya Vriddhavastha ke liye Yoga),' focusing on the benefits of yoga for older adults.

Key Speakers and Their Messages

Prof Sharadindu Kumar Tiwari, Coordinator of Bharat Adhyayan Kendra, stated that yoga is an invaluable heritage of the Indian knowledge tradition and serves as the foundation for holistic development of individuals, society, and the nation. He urged everyone to actively participate in making International Day of Yoga a successful mass movement.

Prof Ajit Kumar Chaturvedi, Vice-Chancellor of BHU, encouraged students, teachers, research scholars, and citizens to incorporate regular yoga practice into their daily routines.

Prof Sushma Ghildiyal, Dean of the Faculty of Arts at Kashi Hindu Vishwavidyalaya, highlighted that yoga is a powerful medium for mental, intellectual, and moral development in addition to physical health. She advised youth to adopt yoga for a stress-free, disciplined, and value-based life.
