The food safety department destroyed 32 kg of paneer during an early morning inspection at the Ludhiana Sabzi Mandi on Thursday due to quality concerns. Conducted under the supervision of civil surgeon Dr Ramandeep Kaur and district health officer Dr Ashish Chawla, the drive aimed to prevent the distribution of unsafe food items in the market.
Raid Details
During the raid, officials collected two samples of paneer from different food business outlets for detailed laboratory analysis. The team destroyed the 32 kg of suspected sub-standard paneer on the spot as an immediate measure to safeguard public health.
Legal Action
The seized samples have been sent to the State Food Testing Laboratory. The department announced that further legal action will be initiated under the provisions of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, once the formal lab reports are received.
Health Department's Commitment
Dr Chawla stated that the health department is committed to strict compliance with safety standards and urged food operators to maintain hygiene. He also advised consumers to buy food products only from reliable sources. The team confirmed that regular inspection and sampling drives will continue across the district.
