Ayurveda Doctor Held for Molesting Patient in Pune

Pune: The Nigdi police on Monday arrested an ayurveda practitioner attached to a private hospital in Chinchwad for allegedly molesting a 37-year-old female patient.

The incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday while the woman was recovering in a hospital ward after undergoing surgery. “The accused entered the ward on the pretext of conducting a medical check-up and allegedly molested her,” an officer from the Nigdi police said.

The patient informed her relatives about the incident, following which they approached the Nigdi police and lodged a complaint. “We have registered a case and arrested the accused,” he said.

Legal Action Taken

The police have filed a case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and have taken the accused into custody. Further investigation is underway to ascertain if there were any previous complaints against the practitioner.

Hospital Response

The hospital management has not issued an official statement yet. However, sources indicate that they are cooperating with the authorities and have suspended the accused pending inquiry.

The incident has raised concerns about patient safety and the need for stricter protocols in healthcare facilities. Women's rights activists have called for a thorough investigation and stricter penalties for such offenses.
